Monsoon conditions did nothing to dampen the spirits of the competitors at the 4th annual show hosted by British Equine Events. This year's event was held at Bold Heath and as usual a high standard was forward in all classes.
A new twist on the best turned out awards was an overall championship in the evening which went to Lucy Aldred on the immaculate black Dartmoor Dykes Country Mead. Lucy also had wins in the handler class, equitation and junior small breeds. Alexandra Parry with Bayford Dorabella has been taking tips from her dad Adam and secured a win in the under 8 years section of the handler classes, before going on to take the overall handler championship. A number of new combinations for this season had wins throughout the day; Emily Webster with Paddock Perdita winner of the M & M First Ridden; Steven Sharples with Lady of the Valley winner of the Novice Hunter. Kevin Lee on the novice Connemara Richmond Hill secured the Novice M & M Ridden and then on to take the overall Novice Championship in the evening.
Kate Hutchinson held off the plaited part bred contingent to take the ridden arabs with her stunning grey pure bred Arab ESP Cancun Def. Victoria Prescott had wins in the Cob and Coloured with her own Miss-Print. Sisters Heather and Amber Tyldsley had a great show in preparation for their trip to Hoys in October and took first and second place in the show pony class with 128cm Parkhills Little Aria and 148cm Hideaway Night Thyme who also took the ridden Part bred welsh class.
The mini champion came from the plaited first ridden class Sophie Openshaw on Royal Park Fatal Attraction and Harvey Parry in reserve with new pony Cosford Wishes. The ridden championship spoils went to the winners from the hunter classes; Kath Littler on the stunning bay Beach Baby who won the hunter horse class and the winner of the 153cm class Emma Dewhurst on Thursden Valley Raphael who secured a win in the Not exc. 153 cm. The M & M classes were well supported and filled with quality as usual making the trip from Birmingham worthwhile for judge Anne Abrahall. Pam Brown won the large breeds with the 2009 Olympia finalist highland stallion Echo of Achnacarry. The evergreen Wortley Wizard took the section A & Bs class with Gabby Davies however it was the winner of the Cs & Ds Fliss Whiteley Cynthas Super Charger who took the championship from Echo of Achnacarry.
The long journey proved a worthwhile one for the Crate family from Scotland who took the M & M In Hand championship with the Sec B colt Skellorn Graffiti with Libby Whiteley leading Cynthas Super Charger in reserve. The plaited In Hand championship went to Samantha Holmes with the beautiful yearling riding pony Tidesbrook Top Cat; riding pony stallion Thursden Valley Raphael in reserve spot; Raphael is also HOYS bound after qualifying for the cuddy final earlier in the year .
The in hand and ridden overall supreme of show championship were judged by independant judge Heather Prescott with Thursden Valley Raphael taking the overall in hand title and Cynthas Super Charged in reserve. After a quick scrabble of saddles for these two ponies they then came forward to contest the ridden supreme however it was the champion from the mixed championship Hideaway Night Thyme ridden by Amber Tyldsley who took the supreme from Emma Dewhurst with Thursden Valley Raphael.
