British Equine Events Spectacular

2008

Following on from the success of the September Spectacular at Osbaldeston last year, Myerscough Agricultural College was the setting for the second event organised by British Equine Events held in support of Brooke Animal Hospital. Despite chilly weather conditions competitors came out in force from Cheshire, Lancashire, Manchester and even Scotland!

Quality was very much to the fore in all classes. The youngsters certainly held their own in the In Hand classes with the Supreme In Hand Championship having 3 out of 4 contenders under 3 years old. The M & M In Hand Champion and eventual Supreme In Hand winner D. McGuirk's striking new forest colt Mallards Wood Saint Peter, who also went on to take the In Hand Championship at the NPS Spring Festival, and silver medal championship the following week.

The Reserve Supreme spot taken by Gina Berresford leading Sharon Draper's homebred 3 year old riding pony colt Oaklands Picture Perfect. Olivia Swales with Cadlan Valley Teleri took the M & M First Ridden class and the mini championship, and managed a very credible second place in the M & M WHP Novice class as they have only just started jumping.

Bradley Leyland on his new acquisition for this season Bankswood Imagination contested the top spot in two very strong classes: Hunter Pony and Ridden Arabs to then take the Ridden Showing championship ahead of Holli Heyes on Lady Des Arts.

The ridden were well filled and judge Robert Parker Jones from Warwickshire enjoyed a high standard of ponies coming before him throughout the day. Briony Ford took the Ridden Large Breeds and Junior Large Breeds with Chauntelle Holmes' fell pony Castle Hill Glen. The Southworth family had a great day with the Bay Section A, Mynyddtarren the Maverick taking second place in the M & M First Ridden with Mark and first placings in the Ridden A & B's Junior Ridden Small Breeds and the M & M Championship with Rebecca.

A special and well deserved mention goes to Ashley Ingham who took the Ridden Novice Large Breeds with her own Hogland Fergus of Rannoch Forest in her first outing. Ashley has worked extremely hard in getting this pony ready for his first season; here's hoping they continue their winning ways.

In a reversal of their respective championship placings the eventual Supreme Ridden winner was Danielle Richardson on the Chestnut Section D Gelding, Cwmclydan Oscar who was the winner in the section C's & D's and Reserve M & M Champion, with the Reserve Ridden Award going to Mynyddtarren the Maverick.

The total raised from this event was £1108.56.
